My road trip to Santa Barbara wine country started at Justin Winery in Paso Robles, 3 hours south of Bay area. I visited Paso years ago when it was a newbie in California wine tourism. Today it is a vibrant wine destination of 200 wineries.

In the early days of Paso, Larry Turley was a pioneer in old vine Zinfandel and he earned recognition for Turley Wines and Paso Robles. But California is synonymous with Cab and Justin Baldwin was early producer in Paso to make outstanding Cabs. I visited Justin before and much has changed since the winery was sold to billionaire Stewart Resnick in 2010.

JUSTIN Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 |
Paso Robles, CA |$24 |
Winery notes “Dry, nearly full bodied, with ripe black cherry, cassis and red fruit, baking spice and oak accents on entry with sustained ripe primary and mostly black fruit, dried autumn leaf, cocoa and a pleasant suggestion of camphor on the mid-palate into the finish.”

JUSTIN Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Wonderful Cab if you can find at retail in NJ. I purchased at winery.
