Syrah would not be my dessert wine of choice but when you’re out of wine and it’s the only bottle in my stash at a BYOB restaurant, it gets drunk!
And what a surprise was this Syrah from Chile. A touch of Syrah spiciness to offset sweetness in Tiramisu and Nutella pie.
MONTES ALPHA Syrah 2013 $17
Colchagua Valley, Chile
Wine enthusiast 92 rating “Deep purple in color, this cool-vintage Syrah excels via smooth cherry, cassis, cedar and charcoal aromas. A full-bodied palate is balanced by firm acidity, while plum, berry, cassis and chocolate flavors finish in harmony. Drink through 2020.”
