There is no better food and wine pairing than BBQ ribs and Zin! Yeah, my ribs are VERY well done (trial run with new gas grill) but the pairing with California Zinfandel was perfect. There will be many hot weekends for cold beer later in the summer and Zinfandel is all-American (California) – a great celebration for Memorial Day weekend.
Arguably the best zinfandel is made by Turley Wine Cellars, based in Napa, Paso Robles and recently Amador County. Juvenile is their entry-level Zin but it is Turley’s single-vineyards that are most desirable. Turley is best known for their Paso Robles wines but their Howell Mountain vineyards have the highest elevation in Napa. And there aren’t many vineyards on prestigious Howell Mountain growing zinfandel grapes!
Turley wines are “allocated” so they rarely appear in retail stores, especially East Coast stores. The best way to buy Turley wines is via their mailing list though it may take a year before you’re invited to join.
