Bruno Giacosa, legendary winemaker in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, recently passed at the age of 88. Giacosa’s Riserva Barolo or Barbaresco is the equal to the finest wines in the world and many I cannot afford. So, I could not pass on this offering from Last Bottle website. Giacosa Nebbiolo d’Alba is probably not from his famous estate vineyards of Asili or Rabajà (in Barbaresco) but for $30 I’ll take my chances!

The wine career of Bruno Giacosa spans many years and his Piedmont contemporaries include Gaja, Conterno and Mascarello. Barolo Boys – The Story of a Revolution, is an interesting documentary (with subtitles) that illustrates the rivalry in Barolo winemaking styles between young winemakers in 1980’s/1990’s and traditionalists such as Giacosa.
