We can’t drive to Napa or Sonoma Valleys but Finger Lakes region in upstate NY is accessible in 3½ hours from north Jersey. Now I’m not suggesting Finger Lakes is comparable to the iconic wineries in northern California but it has more to offer than other close proximity wineries in Long Island, NJ and NY.

I purchased this wine during a Road Trip in 2015 and it paired nicely with chicken Caesar salad dinner on steamy summer evening. Pairing this meal with a white wine would be the obvious choice but my mood was “red”. A quick trip to my wine cellar and this Pinot Noir was an excellent choice – light in color, only 12.5% alcohol level, red fruit flavors with soft tannins.

Winery says “Floral aromas with raspberry and strawberry flavors present a wine that pairs perfectly with beef, pork or poultry”.

BTW the second Mayfair Farms wine dinner is being planned for early September. Stay tuned for details…
