I’ve received comments that I favor Italian wines. I will not apologize for enjoying Chianti Riservas, Super Tuscans and other Italian wines but  my name does end in a vowel!?!

That being said, Spain produces excellent wines for great value. Rioja, Spain’s most well-known region, produces medium body, Old World style wines from Tempranillo grapes. Riscal Rioja Reserva (see below) is an excellent choice to pair with pasta, pizza or chicken.

MARQUES DE RISCAL RIOJA RESERVA 2008.
90% Tempranillo
Best with short decant (15 – 30 minutes). Light burgundy color, aromas of cherry, tobacco, cedar and oak. Tannins are smooth, wine is medium body, with medium body and Old World earthy fruit finish.
