GEORGES DUBOEUF Beaujolais Nouveau 2015
Burgundy, France
Pink-purple in color with little tannins, this is a young wine released only 6-8 weeks after harvest. The wine is released to US market on the third Thursday of November for immediate consumption. The best part of this wine is the abstract design and colorful labels which change with every vintage.
Beaujolais Nouveau (new in French) is a creative marketing event introduced to the world in 1980’s by negociants such as Georges Duboeuf. As Beaujolais Nouveau gained popularity in 1990’s, supply surpassed demand and a glut of poor quality wine created a negative perception of Beaujolais. In 2001 one million cases of Beaujolais were destroyed due to weak demand and poor quality. Scandals continued into 2007 when producers were fined for illegal use of sugar in wine-making.
