The wedding is over and we quietly celebrated the marriage of my 3rd and last child with a bottle of champagne.
And not just any champagne but Dom Pérignon, the ultimate champagne for celebration!
I don’t drink Dom Pérignon often but I was puzzled how Dom achieved their reputation synonymous with luxury, status and top quality. A bit of research revealed these interesting facts.
(1) Most champagne is non-vintage but Dom is vintage champagne meaning it is made with grapes in single year harvest. Dom is not produced in every year – on average only 6 vintages in a decade are good enough to make this sparkling wine.
(2) Dom is owned by French Champagne house Moet & Chandon, a division of the luxury goods company LVMH. Other LVMH brands include champagne houses of Ruinart, Krug, Veuve Cliquot as well as luxury brands Hennessy, Louis Vuitton and Bulgari.
(3) Dom Pierre Pérignon was a 17th century Benedictine monk. Contrary to popular belief, he was NOT responsible for “inventing” champagne. But he was instrumental with improving the blending method used.
(4) Dom was served at royal wedding of Princess Diana to Prince Charles.
(5) Dom is rated third most powerful champagne brand behind Moet Chandon and Veuve Cliquot. Could the reason be Dom’s retail price of $160 versus $50?
(6) Dom is aged for a minimum of 7 years in bottle but some vintages are longer, and it’s only released when ready for immediate consumption.
In summary, Dom Pérignon is a gift for any celebration.
