I recently enjoyed this bottle of Sapaio Volpolo 2006. A delicious blend from Tuscany with nice fruit, well balanced and subdued tannins, this wine is drinking in its prime. Volpolo is the baby brother to Sapaio Superiore, a Super Tuscan often compared to Ornellaia.

PODERE SAPAIO Volpolo Bolgheri 2012 (14.5% ABV, $25 – Bordeaux blend from Bolgheri, Italy of Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 15%, Petit Verdot 15%.

Wine Spectator #41 on 2015 Top 100

Wine Spectator 93 rating “An enticing combination of black currant, black cherry, violet, cedar and cigar box flavors highlight this intense, structured red, which needs some time to resolve the tannins, but this shows ample fruit and balance. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2018 through 2033.”
